Integrating Science and Spirituality Certificate Courses into your Union Institute and University Program

Many learners ask how can they integrate the certificate program into their Union programs. There are a number of ways that this can be achieved.

  • Learners can use courses as modules for new learning and write them directly into their learning agreements. For instance, learners in the Graduate College pursuing a Ph.D. could include a Certificate course, let's say INTS-575-O, 'People, Place, and Story,' as a module of new learning. They could register for it for Graduate Credit and have the instructor of the course, Leslie Van Gelder, made a consultant on their committee, thus capable of evaluating the work for the doctoral program. Or learners might take it for CEUs and have an adjunct on their committee evaluate the work with them.
  • Research projects for the certificate program can parallel or enhance PDE research, offering learners a community with which to develop ideas in a supportive critical environment.
  • Learners are welcome to organize peer days surrounding residencies and travel courses.
  • The Oxford Institute courses expose learners to a wide range of speakers and writers in a number of disciplines. Learners in search of adjunct faculty and peers will have opportunities to meet people who may be able to serve in those capacities on their committees.

If you have questions about ways in which course offerings from the Certificate Program might work in your Union or Vermont degree program, please contact Leslie Van Gelder at leslievg@btopenworld.com.
