History

Its educational program is based on a prototype model program which was founded in 1969 as Trailside Country School. Today, it has become one of the most unique and lasting educational experiences blending contemporary, progressive educational philosophy with the age-old teacher of experience. AEI is a partnership between the National Audubon Society and Lesley College. It has existed as AEI since 1970.

Mission

AEI creates experiential learning communities that inspire informed and compassionate ecological leadership.

Types of Programs Offered

M.A. and B.A. Degree programs in Environmental Education and Sciences.

AEI is a traveling school program where students live communally, plan itineraries and learning projects during a three- month long trip. During other semesters students do independent research. It is a very unique, holistic type of learning where life and learning are not separated and the goals focus as much on development of good community skills as they do in good academic preparation.
