There is nothing better than a birthday to consider the question of perspective. We had two birthdays (and one day before birthday) to ground our philosophical inquiry into the nature of perspective. We also had a cold day in January and all of New York as our playground.

We started out at the Empire State Building in search of the view from above. We got a wonderful view of the city below us and just how far the urban landscape stretched. We also managed to fulfill one of our missions of the day (to get a random stranger to pose in touristy pictures with us) as we got our general to pose with us!

Down below we traveled underground to the foot of the Brooklyn Bridge. After a lunch of pizza and a rendezvous with our late arrivals, we walked across the bridge for a perspective of the city from across the bridge. We took in new views of the bridge itself, and Manhattan, as well as getting a chance to see lady liberty, too (a highlight for our Israeli participant!).

Famished, we let our perspective on things be completely influenced by cannolis and cappuccinos as we ended our day in little Italy with a look at the lights and chaos of Canal Street. It was a wonderful day for reminding ourselves that there is always more than one way to see our world.
