Past Trips

We've covered a lot of ground in the last few years and from here you can get a look at where we've been, what we thought about, some pictures of what we saw and links to curriculum materials which relate to each trip. Each of our trips revolves around some essential questions and in each past trip description you'll find

What are Situques?

Situque (pronounced C2K) means two things. First it means "coming to knowing." Our learning processes are not static and they do not end once we finish traveling together. Our Situques are the ways in which we share the ways in which our trips affected us and continue to affect us. Our learning and our stories are continually unfolding and these pieces of writing and pictures offer some glimpses into our "comings to knowings." The situques may change over time, too, as people add in new pieces, so you may want to revisit them.

The second meaning of the word is divided from the words "situ" and"que." Situ refers to place and event and que refers to questions. So Situque not only helps to share our comings to knowings, it also revolves around "place questions" which are always at the heart of all Road Scholars trips.

Why won't you find situque in the dictionary? Because sometimes you need to create language to say the things that you don't find in the current language. Road Scholars are notorious for inventing new language!

We hope these pages will help to encourage others to follow our trail and to hear our stories, our thoughts, and our reflections on these wonderful trips. No writing or pictures can ever adequately capture the synergy and spirit of a Road Scholars trip, but these will give you a taste of where we've been...
